Green Roof building site,
Russel Larson Agricultural Research Center
The facilities at the site include 6 small (6x8ft) buildings erected in 2000. Three buildings have asphalt roofs and 3 have extensive green roofs. The slope of all roofs is 8.33% (1:12), and the buildings are oriented in a north-south direction. The green roofs consist of 3.5in of an expanded clay mineral (Hydrolite, Garick Corp., Pittsburgh, PA) green roof substrate placed on top of a .75in drainage layer (Enkadrain 9615, Colbond, Enka, NC). The green roofs are vegetated mainly with Sedum spurium Bieb. with some Sedum album L. and Delosperma nubigenum (Schltr.) L. Bol. and have covered 100% of the surface.

University Park Research Center   Our horticulture department is one of the largest departments in the Eastern US. We have state of the art research facilities including:
 One acre of greenhouse space
Soil testing, plant analysis, and media testing labs
 Outdoor sedum test beds
 Controlled environment greenroof test beds

Agricultural and Biological Engineering Fabrication lab facilities   The facility provides a full array to resources for fabrication, design and maintenance of agricultural and engineering related projects.

The Building Environment Simulation and Testing Facility   Installation designed for full scale thermal and air quality research.

PSU Horticulture Greenhouses   Located on the University Park campus. Here, a standardized testing facility measures the interaction or roof slope and medium composition on storm water runoff.

Agricultural Analytical Services   Provides a wide range of testing services for soils, plants, bio-solids, and other agricultural materials. The CFGRR is currently working in cooperation with lab director Dr. Ann Wolf to develop substrates testing procedures similar to those used by FLL.

Penn State Institutes of the Environment   A major goal of this group is to improve our understanding of the biological and physical environment and its impact on individual and social well-being. They equally seek to better understand the relationships between human society and the environment, and develop innovative approaches to achieving societal goals for the environment

Center for Plasticulture   Working with petroleum based products in the development of green roof technology.

LEED   Penn State University is a member of this US Green Building Council
